2 weeks in Indonesia

5 juli 2017 - Singkil, Indonesië

Time flies when you're having fun!
Two weeks already in this beautiful, big country! I've only spend time in Sumatra and in two months I won't be able to go all the way from west to east...

After arriving in Medan a big city nothing really special, I went to lake Toba. Lake Toba is the biggest crater lake in the world and the island in it is huge! On this island there are many traditional houses of Batak, there are 6 different Batak people all with their own language and clothes, nowdays only the houses are visible.
I've spend a bit to much time here, going on a motor around the island, going to the highest(?) waterfall of Indonesia, Sepiso piso, renting a bycicle for two days and see more of this beautiful island and meeting more local people, cycling bavk in the pooring rain! The last two days I went to a traditional festival, Batak Fiesta, seeing the Batak outfits, hearing their traditional music, joining some of their traditional games (very simular to Dutch traditional games!) and seeing theater that explains everything about the Batak culture... if only it was in English I would have understood.
It was a very nice stay at Tuktuk! After 9 days it was time to leave and I left for Ketambe, getting ready for the jungle.

Going to Ketambe was quite a struggle, only 200 kilometers but it needed to be done in 4 different busses(!) waiting an hour in between of every bus and I stranded in the town next to Ketambe. People in Indonesia smoke, a lot and eveywhere! I don't remember ever being in a place where smoking in busses is allowed, tge elderly ladies don't smoke in general they eat tabacco making their mouths red, like blood.
The next day after all those busses and after spending a night in a very moldy hotal with only guys, all these guys were drinking coffee and eating coockies (aid mubarak) I got a coffee as well and before I knew there were all kinds of coockies and fruits I needed to try out.
Ketambe is a small village next to the jungle. Only thing you can do here is enjoying the nature and hiking trough tge jungle. So I did a tree day trekking trough the jungle. Remember the song "every night in my dreams... I see you... I feeeeel you... lalalalala " I think this song has hit the number 1 charges in this area, 8 months ago Leonardo came to Ketambe to raise awereness of the deforrestasion, all the guides are so proud and Celine is on their speakers, got to love it! In the jungle I spotted quite some orangutangs, other monkeys, many insects, beautiful nature, hotsprings and a waterfall. It was a beautiful experience!

Yesterday I went with some locals to another waterfall and tried to plan ahead, it was very difficult since there was no internet and apperently people get lost if there is no internet...
Today I left to the beach and if all goes well I'll be on dome deserted islands tomorrow. :-)

Pictures say more then 1000 words, and definetly for my past 2 weeks so I'll post many on fb.

Selamat tinggal (goodbye)
